Psalm 27:7-10 Never Forsaken

This Psalm is all about dwelling in the presence of the Lord. It began with the reminder that “the Lord is my light and my salvation,” so I need not be afraid of any enemy. Then the psalmist expressed a desire to be close to the Lord by dwelling in His tent. In today’s verses, the psalmist wants to dwell in the Lord’s presence by having a conversation and being assured that the Lord will never leave.

Please read Psalm 27:7-10.

More than anything else, David is here asking for God to “be gracious to me and answer me.” The grace of God is the hope of sinners and the refuge of saints. We would have nothing if it weren’t for God’s grace.

As David asks for God’s grace, he also implies that David has done his part in their relationship. We could do nothing to earn the grace of God. He graciously lavishes us for His purposes, out of His mercy. The only thing that God asks from us in return is for us to follow Him in obedience. David asserts in verse 8 that he has followed God. When God said “seek my face,” David immediately responded “Your face, Lord, do I seek.” David will do everything in his power to obey his Lord.

Yet, David concludes this thought with the reminder that even his obedience would be impossible if it weren’t for the grace of God. David might seek God’s face, but he will never find it if God choses to hide it from him. Only God’s grace will grant us success in our obedience.

Thank God for His abundant grace! He has shown us grace, and He will show us grace! Grace upon grace upon grace! The well of God’s grace never runs dry. He who has been our help will continue to be our help.

He is the “God of my salvation!” Because all that I have has come from the grace of God, I can rest assured that He who has shown me such grace in the past will continue to show me grace in the future. He will never abandon me nor forsake me. I did nothing to earn His grace, so I can do nothing to lose His grace.

Even if the best of human relationships runs dry. Even if my own parents lose their love for their child and forsake me, God will never forsake me. He will continue to show me grace!

O Lord, please let me seek your face and dwell in your presence. Not because I somehow deserve it based on works that I have done. I am a sinner, deserving of nothing. But Lord, I make this request based solely on your grace. Out of your abundant grace, may you grant me the privilege of dwelling in your presence and seeking your face. Amen.

Every day, dear Lord, I feel your grace. It can be in the form of safety, your protection, forgiveness, wisdom and guidance, answers to prayer, and most of all for my salvation. For this and so much more I am so thankful to you.
