Tell of God’s Works: TBR: May 1: Numbers 8; Psalm 44
Today we read of an obligation that all true followers of Christ have - to tell our children of the great works of God. In Psalm 44 we read of this in v. 1 where we are told how the people heard of the great deeds of the Lord. They heard from their fathers. It doesn’t necessarily mean the fathers in relation, though it does mean that, but it also indicates the other previous generations sharing with the next generation. There are lots of things we pass down from generation to generation such as family traditions, work ethic, material wealth, etc. But the greatest thing we can pass along is the knowledge of the great deeds of the Lord. Yes, telling them how the Lord was faithful and provided or how He miraculously worked in our lives through people and circumstances. All these need to point back to the time when we were recipients of the greatest deed of the Lord, when He set us free from bondage (v. 2), and we enjoy the fact we have been set free in Christ from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2). There can never be boasting in this, for this was done, not by ourselves, but by the Lord alone (v. 3). Let us be faithful to tell others, especially our children, of the great and mighty works the Lord has done for us. May the Lord be with you today.
