TBR: March 21: Exodus 32; John 11
Today we read the familiar account of the Golden Calf. The Israelites missing Moses, desired for other “gods” to “go before us” v. 1. This led them to gross idolatry, which included sexual immorality, and resulted in the breaking of the covenant, discipline, and a renewal of covenant. They should’ve been so grateful for Moses, who interceded for them when God wanted them eliminated and a new people through Moses vv. 11-14. We are to be grateful everyday for our intercessor, Jesus, who continuously pleads our case before the throne on our behalf (Romans 8:34). Paul specifically mentions this golden calf account in 1 Corinthians 10:5, 7 that we are to beware of idolatry and sexual immorality. As people of the new and better covenant, we are to learn from the Israelites, be grateful to Christ for His intercession, and to strive to live unto God. The Lord be with you today!
