Psalm 21:3-7 - The Lord Gives Rich Blessings

One of the great blessings of our salvation is that we have been given the right to be called children of God. In Psalm 21, we see a brief list of blessings that God has poured out upon His Son, the King of Kings. As you read through these blessings, remember that you too are a son or daughter of the Most High, and, if you have surrendered your life to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, these blessings are yours to enjoy as well.

Please read Psalm 21:3-7.

The Lord has given to our Lord rich blessings, and these blessings are given to all of His children as well.

First, God the Father has “set a crown of fine gold” upon the head of Jesus Christ. That is why He is now the King of kings and Lord of lords. He wears a great crown. Yet, as His brothers and sisters, Jesus also grants us royal titles and makes us a royal priesthood. He has many crowns in store for us. Among them are a crown of righteousness (2 Tim 4:8), a crown of life (James 1:12; Rev 2:10), and a crown of glory (1 Peter 5:4).

Yet all of these crowns are not for our own benefit, but for His. One day we will be privileged to cast our crowns before the throne of the Lamb and join with the elders in singing, “worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created” (Revelation 4:11). We do not serve Christ for the crowns; they are simply one of God’s rich blessings on us.

Another rich blessing is that of life. God has granted the Son an eternity of days, and Jesus grants those days to all those who trust in Him.

Those days will be filled with another blessing: glory. Christ is magnified through the salvation of the saints. All glory rightly belongs to Him. But He is most glorified when people and angels witness the glory that He has given to what used to be pitiful, wretched sinners. Jesus will give us glory so that others may see what He can do with people as unworthy as we are and glorify Him all the more.

Next, as we discussed in the opening verses of this psalm, our Lord will be made glad with joy. And not just any joy, but the joy of the presence of God the Father. God the Son, God the Father, and God the Holy Spirit have been united for all of eternity, except for that brief period when Jesus Christ bore our sins on the cross. Then, the Holy Father forsook His dearly beloved Son, and poured out His wrath on all unrighteousness. The pain was great. But the joy of their reunion is far greater! One day we will join in the joy of God’s presence.

To all of these blessings, will be added the great blessings of love. It is “through the steadfast love of the Most High” that all of these blessings will be given. God didn’t save us because we were worthy, or because we said the right prayer, or because He had to for some reason; God saved us because He loves us. If you get nothing else from this lesson, hear this: you are loved. You are loved by the God of the Universe with a love so powerful that it can make living saints from dead sinners. You are loved so strongly that God was willing to sacrifice His own Son to demonstrate that love.

Because of His great love for you, God has also richly blessed you with a crown, eternal life, glory, and joy.

You are loved. And You are richly blessed.
