Perfect Sacrifice: TBR: March 29: Exodus 40; John 19
In Exodus 40 we read of the setting up of the tabernacle where sacrifices would be made and where the people would meet God. This was the shadow of John 19 where we read of the crucifixion of Jesus as He dies the perfect sacrifice. We are told in Hebrews 9 when He died He entered not into the tabernacle made with hands but the heavenly tabernacle to make the full and perfect atonement for our sins. It would be offered once, and no more. In John 19, we are reminded several times of the fulfillment of Scripture (vv. 29, 36). But there is one more that is striking. As Jesus was on the cross, He died at His own time. Meaning He willingly gave up His life as the perfect sacrifice - no one took His life from Him. This is exactly as He said (John 10:15). We see this when the soldiers went to break the legs of the criminals to expedite their death. When they came to Jesus, He was already dead. He had willingly given His life as a perfect, final, and full sacrifice for our sins. Christian, there’s nothing left for you to do but believe. You can’t add to the finished work of Christ. Rather believe, love and serve Him and keep His commandments. May the Lord be with you today!
