Matter of Holiness: TBR: April 8: Lev 11-12; Psalms 13-14
Today we read of the beginning of the clean vs unclean laws. While there is uncertainty regarding the specific reasons why, one thing is clear. God has a specific reason why, for example, certain animals are clean vs unclean and ultimately it is meant to show the people were different that the nations. God called the Israelites to be holy and to follow Him in holiness. They were to be distinct from the nations in all aspects of their lives. We see these restrictions lifted in Acts when the gospel was to go “out” to the nations (no longer would Gentiles be required to come into the Jewish nation) and in Christ there is no distinction in Jew or Gentile. In Christ, we are called to be Holy before the Lord. While the OT and NT dietary laws may be different, the call for holiness is the same (Lev. 11:44; 1 Peter 1:16). Christian, let us seek to live holy lives before the Lord. May the Lord be with you today!
