I am a Child of God (Genesis 25:1-6)

I am a child of God. 

That incredible statement has become common place in Christendom, so you probably skimmed over it. Don’t do that. Please read it again, and emphasize the first word:

I am a child of God.

When God sent Jesus Christ to this earth, He planned on sacrificing His Son on the cross for you. When you trusted in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you were adopted into the family of God. Now God calls you His child.

Sometimes we are grateful for this reality, but we consider ourselves one of many. We think, “Yes, I’m God’s child, but aren’t we all God’s children? What’s so special about me?”

In a manner of speaking, yes, God created all of mankind. So, in one sense, all of mankind could be called children of God. But all of mankind are also referred to as children of Adam, and children of the devil. As a believer in Jesus Christ, you are different. God chose you. God adopted you. Jesus Christ paid the price for your sins. While God loves the entire world, He loves you on a much deeper level. Kind of like how Abraham loved Isaac.

Please read Genesis 25:1-6.

Abraham had many sons, but he “gave all he had to Isaac.” Isaac was the child of promise. Isaac was Abraham’s heir. Isaac is the only one of Abraham’s children who would claim the Promised Land as his inheritance. Sure, all of Abraham’s other children received gifts, but Isaac received everything that his father had.

You are special. God loves you. God chose you to be His child. And God sent everything that He had for you. God gave His most precious relationship, His dearly beloved Son, to die on a cross for you. Jesus was sacrificed so that your sin could be paid, and you could be adopted into the family of God.

So say it with me:

I am a child of God.
